The Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey which is scheduled to host WWE SummerSlam 2015 on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015 is reportedly closing its doors by the end of the month according to a state senator.
The 34-year old state owned arena which was opened in 1981 as the Brendan Byrne Arena and then later renamed the Continental Airlines Arena until 2007 before becoming the Izod Center will move all events currently scheduled to the Prudential Center.
The arena has faced stiff competition from other newer and bigger venues such as Prudential Center opening in 2007, the Barclays Center opening in Brooklyn in 2012, and Madison Square Garden in Manhattan recently undergoing a renovation.
WWE issued the following statement:
"WWE is currently looking at alternatives and we're confident we will come up with an equivalent to or better option."
